The Northern Territory Government’s Department of Business (DOB) offers many practical services and programs to assist Territory businesses.
The Department can provide support to business owners at all stages of their business development --getting started, licensing requirements, skills development, business growth mentoring, energy audits and an array of financial incentives and support programs.
The Territory Business Centres are the initial contact and referral point for people wanting to start a business, access business and industry licence information, business planning assistance and information on government assistance programs.
They also provide a customer service facility, for businesses, which delivers a diverse range of licensing and business information services on behalf of numerous Northern Territory Government Departments. Territory Business Centres have recently increased the number of over-the-counter services to include High Risk Licences, Association Extracts and Copy of Certificates, Auctioneer Renewals, Machine Manager and Repairer Replacements, Minor and Major Lotteries Applications, Motor Vehicle Dealers Register, Private Security Upgrades and Replacements, Tobacco Replacement and Wholesale Liquor Renewals.
Territory Business Centres are located in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs and a new office will soon open in Tiwi.
DOB hosts numerous business development workshops and networking events throughout the year designed to improve business processes through the Business Upskills program. The Business Upskills program provides practical, hands-on and informative workshops facilitated by industry experts to help business owners develop and strengthen their businesses. Free workshops are held across the Northern Territory on key areas such as marketing, managing staff, planning to grow your business and pricing, costing and quoting.
Established businesses can also benefit from a suite of Business Growth programs designed to meet the unique needs of Northern Territory business. The program offers reimbursements for businesses to engage professional advisors who work with you to develop your business in areas of need. Areas may include business performance, profitability, employment levels and market penetration.
