SIMRAD: THE HALO™ RADAR WINS DAME TECHNOLOGY CATEGORY DESIGN AWARDS, METS 2015 The Simrad HALO™ Pulse Compression Radar range, the world’s first high-performance recreational solid-state, open-array radar system with pulse compression technology, has won the prestigious 2015 DAME Technology Category Award. Halo delivers the key benefit of radar from 20ft to 72NM. Simrad’s Halo combines the advantages of Broadband Radar™ and traditional pulse radar systems, providing navigational visibility and awareness as close as 6m within the pulse radar’s short-range “blind spot”, where once only Broadband Radar could operate, all while offering exceptional long-range performance up to 72 nautical miles. With Beam Sharpening for enhanced target separation control, HALO provides unmatched target resolution. Using its Dual Range mode, HALO can also function as two radars in one with no signal loss, monitoring two distance ranges simultaneously with independent display controls. Simple to use custom Harbour, Offshore, Weather and Bird (to help spot fish) modes tune HALO’s advanced signal processing to ensure targets are seen vividly, even in the toughest environments. This Dual Range mode means dual MARPA target tracking where up to 20 targets can be tracked displaying the closest point of approach, and the time to closest point of approach. Unlike traditional pulse radars, HALO does not rely on a high-powered magnetron or vacuum tube to transmit a signal; the solid state technology produces a crystal-clear accurate radar image instantly from standby or in 16-25 seconds from power-up. HALO is safe to use and already meets upcoming Low Emission Standards and, with its low power consumption, it supports for 12/24volt systems with availability in 3, 4 and 6ft open arrays, making HALO ideal for small to mid-sized powerboats. HALO Radar connects to existing Simrad NSS evo2/NSO evo2 multifunction displays. Halo Radar Features 5 Modes with Auto Harbour/Offshore Selection Custom, Harbour, Offshore, Weather and BIRD modes tune Halo Radar’s advanced signal processing to help ensure the targets you’re interested in can be seen vividly – even in the toughest environmental conditions. Automatic selection of Harbour and Offshore modes configures your Halo Radar to suit your surroundings, while a ‘Custom’ mode enables easy manual tuning to suit any purpose or condition. Beam Sharpening with Target Separation Control Go compact without compromising on resolution. Beam Sharpening grants HALO-3 similar resolution to a 4-foot array, and HALO-4 similar to a 6-foot array. HALO-6 provides an unprecedented resolution of 0.8 degrees, similar to an 8-foot array. Advanced Signal Processing for Clearer Images Halo uses Digital Sidelobe Reduction and Directional Sea Clutter Rejection to enhance the detection and discrimination of smaller targets, while Sector Blanking eliminates unwanted reflections for less clutter on screen. High Speed Mode for Rapid Position Updates Halo provides high speed operation up to 48RPM (mode and range dependent). Simrad quality construction and Halo’s brushless motor with advanced helical geartrain design ensure exceptionally quiet operation, especially at high speed. Dual Range with NSS & NSO evo2 Multifunction Displays Monitor two distance ranges simultaneously with independent displays, controls, and MARPA tracking. Watch both nearby collision hazards and faraway weather cells, with Halo’s unique combination of short- and long-range performance. MARPA Target Tracking with 10 Targets per Range Track CPA/TCPA for up to 10 user-selected radar targets per range (up to 20 total in dual-range mode), when using Halo Radar with a compatible multifunction display, high-speed heading sensor, and GPS receiver. Target Detection: all Simrad Halo Radars offer excellent target detection.
