GOOD GEAR: Abu Revo Inshore Ins40 Spin Reel / Spiderwire Stealth Blue Camo Braid

INHOUSE REVIEW by ROGER SINCLAIR

The new ABU Revo inshore features an X-Craftic alloy body, 6 stainless steel HPCR bearings plus one roller bearing, a stainless steel main shaft, and a computer optimised precision  6.2:1 gear design for use in harsh saltwater fishing situations.  Weighing in at 266gm, it balances well with a mid-range spin rod (such as the Veritas 2.0 701SPH 5 – 9kg spin also used in this review). Spooled up with Spiderwire Stealth Blue Camo braid, it is a versatile, medium light spin outfit capable of tackling the likes of barramundi and queenfish in the north to snapper, whiting and Australian salmon in the south. NAFA staff subjected the Revo Inshore/Spiderwire combo to a number of different scenarios including deep-water whiting and snapper fishing in South Australia’s Spencer Gulf, barra fishing in the Top End, casting soft plastics for saratoga in tropical billabongs, and even some light jigging over tropical inshore reefs where it accounted for a variety of nice reef fish.  The Revo did not miss a beat over the testing period and appears suited to the rigors of inshore saltwater fishing applications. Spiderwire Stealth Blue Camo Braid 30 pound breaking strain was supplied with the test reel. It has a diameter of .30mm and is multi-coloured along its length, turquoise, white and indigo shades to blend in with saltwater environments. In practical fishing situations, the white segments were easily visible, enabling  positive line management and bite detection.  The line performed well throughout, casting smoothly and displaying good abrasion resistance. Stealth Bluewater Camo is made in  the USA and is available in 6 – 80 pound test while the Revo Inshore  is available in sizes 30, 35, 40 and 60 to suit a range of inshore saltwater fish species. www.abugarcia-fishing.com.au www.purefishing.com.au
