New for 2018, the SLX series is the latest addition to the ever-growing Shimano baitcaster range. This is a compact and highly versatile reel, suited to catching anything from bass through to barra. It features a rigid, aluminium Hagane frame utilising the same body size as the Curado 70, but offering the line capacity of a conventional 150 sized reel. Inside the SLX’s Hagane Body, durable brass gearing delivers reliable cranking power and three SUS (corrosion resistant stainless steel) bearings and one roller bearing mean that the powertrain turns smoothly. Casting is made effortless with the adjustable 6 pin VBS brake system, making it ideal for a range of different fishing styles and casting preferences. There are two model options featuring gear ratios of 6.3:1 and 7.2:1 respectively, meaning that the slow and methodical lure worker and the angler who likes a bit of speed are both well covered by the new SLX series. On top of this, a longer 45mm throw handle provides comfortable cranking, and maximum drag settings of up to 5.5kg ensure plenty of stopping power should it be needed. Finally, the fish may not think much of the matt black and electric blue livery of the SLX series, but you can’t help but admire this eye-catching colour scheme.
