Where can you go and buy a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread and an outboard motor under the same roof? Try Coolalinga Shopping Complex where there are a supermarket, variety stores and the NT Powersports modern showroom.
NT Powersports principal, Inga Macfarlane, said the concept of opening a multi-faceted outdoors/watersports style business in a shopping centre worked well for Darwin, but she wasn’t sure it would work as well in Sydney, or any other capital cities.
Darwin based and located in the Coolalinga shopping centre, NT Powersports is easily accessible to the surrounding areas of Palmerston, Humpty Doo, Girraween, Howard Springs, Freds Pass, Virginia, and Bees Creek.
NT Powersports is a local dealership. Inga says it specialises in selling and servicing number one brands like Sea-Doo, Can-Am ATV and Can-Am SSV, Honda Marine, Seatrail, and CF Moto.
“We have also taken on the Evinrude service and maintenance dealership for the region,” she said.
As well as offering unbeatable Sea-Doo jet skis, Can-Am, Honda Marine, CF Moto ATV and SSV line-ups, Inga said her staff is highly trained, fully qualified and equipped to meet customers’ needs.
“Whether it’s a new vehicle, lawn mower, outboard, chainsaw or just spare parts, NT Powersports has convenient opening hours to meet our customer needs and is now open seven days a week,” Inga said.
Inga started the business in a 100sqm shed in March 2014. Nowadays, her showroom encompasses 250sqm of floor space and three shops inside the shopping complex.
“The advantage of foot traffic here is that it opens people’s eyes. It often happens here that a family is shopping, and the kids and wife will drag dad into the showroom,” she said.
NT Powersports workshop is located in Darwin at 33 McCourt Road, Yarrawonga.
As far as boats go, Inga pointed out her association with BRP, which owns Telwater, the manufacturer of Quintrex, Savage, Stacer and Yellowfin boats. Sea-Doo and Can-Am also come under the broad BRP umbrella.
“We don’t stock boats. Hulls are a huge business and there is a shortage of hulls, and you must walk before you can run. I am not dismissing boats and, given our association with BRP, opportunity may come down the track, and many people who venture inside want to repower.”
Inga said her workshop and staff were fully certified, and factory trained to repair all Can-Am, CF Moto, Honda Marine, Evinrude, and Sea-Doo; quads, buggies, jet skis, outboards, lawn mowers, chainsaws and more, and could work on all major brands.
“We consistently have an extensive range of new Sea-Doo jet skis, Can-Am ATV, and Can-Am SSV and CF Moto Specials, which we invite people to test ride during our Ride Day events or by appointment,” she said.
As for the future, Inga said she is passionate and determined to build up brand names like Sea-Doo to where she believes they should be.
“Sea-Doo jet skis are a great selling item and Honda outboards are bulletproof and well supported commercially,” she said.
