MOTHERSHIPPING FROM MACKAY

Join a 5 day Hardline trip aboard Trigla and Raptor II for the fishing adventure of a lifetime. Stay in air conditioned comfort about an 80ft mothership, and fish in style aboard a 35ft Flybridge Cougarcat.

Experience the best of both worlds, with air-conditioned cabins onboard the mothership, fully catered and comfortable surrounds, and the speed and maneuverability of a game boat (Raptor II) for awesome fishing action. There are also two dories so guests can explore the reefs — all fishing options are covered.

The fishing options are extensive; troll for marlin, sailfish, and XOS dogtooth tuna along Blossom Bank on the edge of the continental shelf, troll reef edges for huge Spanish mackerel, reef fish for all your favourite coral reef-dwellers or jig and cast poppers for GTs. You name it, you can do it, fishing virtually untouched remote reefs up to 200 kilometres offshore.

There is huge potential for black and blue marlin, dogtooth and yellowfin tuna around Blossom Bank and Marilyn Shoal. The area also has some of the best deep sea fishing available off the Great Barrier Reef.

The area surrounding Bugatti Reef and Hydrographers Passage is stunning, with phenomenal fishing. Many of these areas have very little fishing pressure. Visit pristine reef lagoons such as Bugatti, Little Bugatti, or Whitetip Reefs on the outer Hardline, with perfect sheltered anchorages. These offer great access to the outer reefs, shoals and continental shelf for some action packed fishing. Raptor II has fast cruise speeds of 25 knots, getting you amongst the action in no time.

The Journey Begins Your mothershipping adventure begins with Trigla leaving at 4pm from Mackay Marina for an afternoon cruise to the outer Great Barrier Reef, travelling at a comfortable 10 knots with Raptor II in tow.

Reefari ask guests to arrive at 3 pm or earlier for a smooth and punctual departure. Trigla cruises late into the night, and you wake up on the Great Barrier Reef with a full day of fishing ahead. The first day is spent working various reefs and fishing methods while still travelling to the Hardline outer reef lagoons. Large, pristine, sheltered lagoons with calm seas are the anchorages of choice. These locations boast resident populations of giant trevally and groper as your neighbours.

These lagoons are sheltered from choppy seas and swells, offering a great sleep after a hard day fishing. With these reefs only five to ten nautical miles from the continental shelf and some of the best fishing Queensland can offer, it’s truly fishing nirvana. With five days fishing on the outer Hardline and continental shelf, a different route home is taken, exploring and fishing these unique waterways, coral cays and lagoons while heading back towards home. Destinations and anchorages are weather dependent and may vary at the Skipper’s discretion.
